I'm putting together a list for my next coral order and most of the ones that catch my eye end up being considered difficult or expert care levels. I would prefer to not go beyond "moderate" care levels as this is my first reef tank.
I already have gsp, green striped mushrooms, green and purple cabbage leathers, a rhodactis mushroom, a maxi mini, rbta, goniastrea brain, long polyp toadstool, candy canes, pompom xenia, dragon eye and wham'n watermelon zoas and a tan goni. Any suggestions on something to add a contrast but still not too difficult to keep? I'm open to suggestions for placement as well. Tank is a 40 breeder, set up in July.
(Ignore the wine glass, I'm growing out some zoas for a friend in it. Lol)

You should try a Jason Fox jacko lantern, jawbreaker mushrooms, bounce mushroom, or even a Jason Fox flame acro.

Try to stick to lps and softies if you’re looking for moderate care. Duncan coral, frogspawn, hammer, and torch are all pretty and add some movement to the tank. You could also look at trumpet corals, and maybe some birdsnest or pocillopora. They’re not too hard either. :)

How are the chromis? I’ve always debated keeping them, but have heard they like to fight a lot! Do they school or just hang out as individuals?

Mine don't fight but they're pretty young. I've read that they do better in large schools.

I say get what you want just research it before you buy it. I hate spending $ on something then it die. So I make sure I know how to keep it alive before I buy it. Also, make sure it and it's water parameters are compatible with the other corals in your tank. Example; euphillia (torch, frogspawns & hammer) like their water a bit "dirtier" with a bit higher nitrates (not crazy high though) where I hear something like an elegance coral needs pristine conditions. Just an example.

Thanks. I'd really like to get some frogspawn or hammers. My understanding is that they would be compatible with my current coral stock. I was having issues with my xenia until I quit doing so many water changes. I now have nitrates between 10ppm and 20ppm and my corals look much happier.

I have a torch that loves the nitrates at just that number. I also have 3 different montipora (red, green and purple) zoas, xenia, ricordea mushroom, green trumpet, pink & green birdsnest and a war coral. All of them are low maintenance. I also have some gsp that my urchins wear as hats and carry around the tank. I used to have some green clove polyp but my urchins ate it (I didn't know my urchins would eat clove polyp).

Hammer, Frogspawn, and Bubble are 3 of my favorite moderate LPS.
