LOL. I have been doing research at LFSs near me. I come in with a bag with notebook, tape measure, sometimes other equipment and apparatus. Have not noticed anyone following me... yet! I would assume all of them have cameras with all the high end equipment and corals sitting around.

I'm assuming that applies to the wholesalers and suppliers in Florida. Clearly there are plenty of retail buyers that don't need a license. A case of real "fake news".

In Florida to sell frags you must have an “aquaculture license”. It cost a small amount of money and your “facility” is inspected by the state. Usually this license lets it’s holder buy from wholesalers as well. This is why you see so many “garage sellers” from Florida.

It’s state law in Florida.

FWC was giving written warnings to some of the coral vendors. Unfortunately, there are rules in place with FWC and DACS that were intended to protect/regulate the collection and sale of saltwater products. However, these rules are outdated and do not reflect current changes to the hobby. Especially as it relates to buying and selling coral frags as a hobbyist.

So please be aware of these rules before you post livestock for sale. PBMAS will not be responsible for the enforcement of these rules.

In a nutshell, if you grow a coral in your tank and sell it or trade it, you need to have an aquaculture certificate. Whether it is one frag per year or 1000 frags per year. This is the DACS rule.

If you buy a coral, you must keep a record of where you bought the coral. Keep the receipt. Or, keep a log book. Either will satisfy the intent of the rule.
