Ok, I've had this coral for about 2-3 months. Won it at my club raffle, it was called Borealis ???Anywho, I just noticed tumor like growths on a couple of the tips. Have any of you seen/heard anything like this? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Oh, the tank is stable and all other corals are doing fine.

i just watched a show on discovery or something and it said that these similar tumors are harming a great deal of the coral heads in hawaii.

now i am not certain if it was the same kind of tumor but it looked similar to what they were showing on the program i was watching (it was wild spaces in hawaii or something long those lines)

EDIT: i was wrong on the channel and the title

America's Wild Spaces: HIDDEN HAWAII

it is on national geographic they rerun them a few times a month around here so you might be able to catch it

Could there have been some type of foreign matter on the coral that it grown over? Kinda what it looks like.... or did it happen overnight?

Poke at it, is it squishy like a bubble or hard like the rest of the coral?

It is soft. It ripped open when I pocked it. Looks like the tissue has bubbleb up for some reason. I hope it don't RTN on me.

anouther wierd point is it doesnt look to be affecting the coral.. the polyps still look nice and extended hmm...

I have seen another coral with a tumor on it like that, and done some reading up on it on some of the well known scientific sites. When I have more time I'll post some links to it. - its UFC time tonight - :)

One of my corals did that. I don't know why, but it kept growing and the growth didn't seem to hurt it. Just looked weird.

Thats normal is the way that this type of coral grows I got one and its does the same thing even do i think its not a borealis but its a type of fast growing tort

Thanks for the input every1. It tore apart when I poked it. As of today it looks like business as usual. The tear actually looks like it never happened....weird. I'll post if anything transpires.

I've had a few do that over the years. Search acro blisters and see what you can find. Mine grew for a while, then 'exploded'. Algae grew from the spot they occupied before the 'explosion' for a while.

Weird. Mine just grew into the blister and now has stubby strange ends. Guess I should have popped mine too!

Update. They have not returned since the "poking";) The coral is doing great with no signs of anything weird happening.
