Hello All,

These two piece of coral in my tank recently have turned dark. They are new purchases (within the last 2 weeks). So I'm not sure if they are dieing or if it's a normal reaction for them.

My other coral is looking fine. I'm just not familiar if this is a typical reaction or if they will eventually settle and I'm worried about nothing.

Any ideas?

Looks like cyphastria to me. If it is, I would more start them out in a shaded part of the tank (especially if you have decent intensity lighting). They and most corals will change color slightly as they acclimate to your specific spectrum.

I run 2 hours moon, 12 hours moon and white, and 2 hours moon again. Took much white you think? I'll move it into a shaded area.

I agree shaded area for those guys.

I would do 6-8 hours of peak intensity(moon&daylights), you can have a longer blue period at the end for viewing. 12 hours is a bit long for whites. 2 hour ramp up is perfect as is.

I do 2 hours blue, 8 hrs combined with whites, and go back to blue for 2 hours.

Anybody think that frag in the front is a chalice?

My chalices enjoy a LOT more light than cyphastrea (which indeed prefers less light).

I do agree with @Hemmdog on the sorter photoperiod. I do 7hrs blazing and 2 hrs actinic each end.

I was told the front coral is a challice when I bought it. It's possible the LFS informed me incorrectly. Anyway I'm going to experiment with placing them in darker areas that don't get direct light and see if that turn them around.

Thanks for the help everyone!

Move to lower light.

What sort of lights do you have? What are the settings? The photoperiod?
