I don’t think this is a big emergency but I’ve had my green star polyp for nine days now and it still won’t open I’ve checked my water for everything and everything is perfect idk if it’s because the snails and hermit crabs keep knocking it off the rock or if it’s something else

Can you post a picture? What are your water parameters and where is the placement? (Flow/lighting) then we can be of more help :)

Probably the snails and hermits knocking it off honestly, green stars do not like to be moved around a lot.

Funny thing about gsp being so hardy. I had other corals , east sps, zoas etc , doing fine. But I killed my GSP somehow. Months and months later , it came back from the dead. Still no clue why.

It'll bounce back. The day I brought mine home it was fine, then it closed up for a week or two. Then opened up and now is growing.

my gsp is next to the small rock in the sand bed and I have good flow and good lighting

GSP like PSP, takes a bit to adjust to tank parameters, lighting and flow, but will go crazy once it adjusts. Keep it isolated unless you want a tank full of it.

Stuff grows like a dang weed and is a pain in the butt. Take it as an omen and sacrifice it to the reef gods! On a more serious note, glue it (or otherwise anchor it) to the rock you want it on and it will take off in short order provided nothing is out of the norm in regard to water parameters.

My gsp.will close up when the ozone is running for a long time. If i turn it off they will open up 3-6 hours later. Same with dosing hydrogen peroxide.

Something is irritating them. Whats your water parameters?

I think it’s because my snails and hermit crabs keep touching it and moving it, today I started to see it open up

Yep, if you don't want it taking over all of your rock, it needs to be isolated on the sand bed and trimmed regularly. I love GSP but it can overtake the tank if left unchecked.

I have such a hard time with GSP for some reason. It gets nearly suffocated by algae (practically the only place in my system with algae); it started growing around the edges while also melting away and dying by parting away in the middle. Strange stuff.

keep it stable on a rock in the sand bed isolated as when it starts to grow it will spread quickly or you will wish it stayed closed
