Coral you would never sell

Shewt - *everything* is for sale in my tank. Now that we've established that, let's talk about price... ;)

thats what i was thinking. i would be willing to bet everything in this thread is for sale if the right offer came along. it might not actively be for sale but money talks most of the time. matter a fact just a few months ago i had my entire nano wiped out becasue a local guy wanted all the cool stuff that was in it. now i had to start all over again. I cried about it until i bought a new lens with the cash lol

There is some truth to these statements, but it doesn't go unnoticed that you are both not pure hobbyists and that the hobbyist doesn't see the throughput that you see. So what the hobbyist comes across in 5-10 years may be what the vendor sees in 5-10 months, depending. Still, for 10 million dollars, who's to say? But then again, that's not the point of this thread.

The point is, you're not going to win the lottery, and given how long it has taken you to collect what you have (despite jobs, children, and other activities), how likely is it that you can replace what you are showing here? But thanks guys, for pointing out the hole in the wall.

Oh, so keep the pics a comin! I may have a hitchhiker that came in on a piece of live rock that I'll be picking up soon.

I have a small Wilsoni like caddisfly posted as well that would not come out of my fists!

Jr what about your Dads AMAZING Orange/Pink & Gold Scoly???????? I havent seen any pics of it recently. Is it still alive and well? That was prob my fav coral I've ever seen

I wouldn't sell for anything...and I mean anything...sorry, it's a matter of principle to me. Here's a comparison:
Guy meets a girl in the bar and asks "Can I make love to you for a million dollars?" She answers "Of Course."
He then asks "Can I make love to you for a dollar?" She answers "NO, what kind of a girl do you think I am?"
His relpy..."I thought we already established what kind of a girl you were and are now just haggling over the price!".

Be it a dollar or a million, the principle is the same to me...my favorites are not for sale....

LOL - sorry mang. Was just having a little fun in a fun thread! I dig it!
:D

No worries mate. Your point is well-taken and for some hobbyists (Ladipyg and Azurel outstanding exceptions) probably valid.

Here's another example of value (to me). I just picked up a large piece of two-year-old live rock from a take-down sale. The previous owner included a photograph of two unknowns (as far as a post on Boston Reefer Society). Here's the ad pic:

I just returned with the rock. Here's another pic of the hitchhikers. Not sure I'll ever identify them, but to me they are pretty and I've never seen them for sale.

Why would you sell these beauties? You can't easily replace them. BTW, any stabs at I.D. appreciated. They have an LPS-like calcium base.

I have a couple that I would not sell and a couple that I might (maybe) sell frags of when they grow to show piece size, ~6" in diameter.

Here is one that I will not sell:
My Aussie Scoly...I can't capture the beautiful iridescent colors on this coral with the camera, while it looks good in the picture, it looks 100% better in the tank.

Here are two that need to grow to show piece size:

And my Flying Saucer Echino that recently reached show piece size again (>7") and is ready for fragging a more couple pieces off it:
