Why would you think keeping the lights out help the situation? Real question, not trying to be offensive, curious about your reasons.
Also it is usually good to post your parameters. Checking your parameters should be the first thing you do before anything if you are questioning your health of your tank. Then Post...

why keep lights out?

Thats a leather coral, they will slump when lights are off. They should stand up when the lights come on again. But if it doesn't, it would be a sign of low flow. Leathers need flow to help them stand up.

Update I have had lights on as I normally due, last night when I posted the lights were out because I only run them 10-9 ish and put them in midnight mode. I was wondering if I should cut the lights because in the light last 2 days it has been shlumped. Flow has remained the same as it has always been. Nitrate is .11 ppm salinity 1.027

Water change was a good idea. You can run a bit of carbon for a few days. Probably too much or not enough of what it likes in the tank at the moment, but light is not one of those. I wish I could be more help, but those grow like weeds in my tank, so I do not pay attention to them as much. I can have one all puffed out and another next to it not so much. Maybe it is a food thing? If it is all big, it maybe trying to get some food (light/nutrients) but if it is small, maybe not as hungry. IDK...
