I can try, would it be harmful to the sponge if I removed the rock from the water to take a better picture?

If it's a regular sponge, it shouldn't be.

OK, I will try to remove the rock and get a better picture. We are supposed to be arranging the rocks tonight any way so that we can attach the coral we bought from the Joe Knows Reef sale last weekend.
