I justt got my first coral, chose a duncan coral, any tips on acclimation? my LFS keeps their tanks at 1.025, and mine might be off by a small amount. I acclimate by putting in a clean bowl and putting cups of tank water inside the bowl every 5 min for 20-30 min

I don't acclimate but do dip in coral rx for pest control typically not always. Shipped corals I just drop in as quick as they arrive.

That is good for acclimation. It’s good to start corals low to acclimate to light, and then over the next few days to weeks move it where it will stay. Duncans are very hardy.

I don’t recommend drip or slowly acclimating corals or anemones. The sooner you can get them into flowing water, the better. Just float (if off by more than 2°F), dip (if applicable), and put in the tank. Congrats on your first coral, though, Duncan’s are one of my favorites!

You either want to run acclimation mode on your light for 30 days, or start the coral at the bottom and slowly move it up to where you’ll want it permanently.

its going on the edge of the tank, which is pretty low light, and i dont have acclimation mode, its a cheap kingbo light

Yeah, just start it low and off to the side and move it a little closer to where you want it every 5 days or so. If you have a frag rack with a magnet, this makes it much easier as you can just raise the rack without having to disturb the coral. Do you know what kind of lighting it was under? If it was fairly intense, you might be okay just putting it where you want it (assuming you’re lighting isn’t crazy intense), but it’s best to always light acclimate if you’re unsure (won’t ever hurt to do it).

its was around the middle of the tank, it was on the same level as every other frag, so id say decent lighting.

To blow any detritus or hitchhikers that may be clinging on. Depending on what the coral is I don’t always remove them from the plugs, a lot of the time you’ll end up doing quite a bit of damage, but if it can be done easily, its a good practice to do. If you can’t or don’t want to remove it, you can cut the peg off with some bone shears to make mounting it on rockwork a little easier/less ugly.

Use a baster to blow water over the coral while in the dip. It will blow off any pests that man on it or the plug. I normally remount the coral on a new plug as well. Just me.

I have a duncan frag that started as one head on the bottom back corner tucked away that I forgot about. Little less then a year and now has few heads altleast 4

As I said, its a cheap kingbo light. Search "KINGBO aquarium LED" on amazon and it should pop up. Its to the side, so low light, maybe 50 par? Tank is 10 gallons as a scale. The clown is approx 1-1.5 inches in length for scale too.
