New tank that's currently in the Nano in 90.

Are you running stock lights or do you have the hqi?

Nice job! You got it nicely stocked already. Here is my 29 biocube. I started it in July with original filtration (bio balls), and upgraded the filtration with my own made media basket and fuge.

The fuge is lit with magnetic 4 LED I got from intank. Growing chaeto like crazy!
I also added the small oceanic skimmer and placed it in chamber 1. I upgraded the pump to mj 1200, and placed a spinning hydor on the return. Haven't added any additional circulation pumps as you have but I'd like to! The lighting is stock dual PC's, which I want to upgrade to LED's. I entered the nano in 90 contest with it, did you? Any questions let me know?

I considered upgrading my lighting but left it stock. It seems to be doing fine... I really would like to have a Kessil lighting system... but with dogs i like the lid to keep the hair out.
is that a rock full of green hammer on the bottom right in your tank??

What is the nano in 90 contest?? Im not familiar with it.

It's an annual contest they have been doing on reef2reef where contestants have 90 days to build up a nano (less than 34gal. I believe. You have a max allowance of $500 in corals to stock it with. Unfortunately, you missed the deadline to enter, but it would be worthwhile to go on the thread and check out what many others are doing with their nanos!

very cool... I will certainly check it out.

That coral is a frogspawn. It was a little ticked off in that photo.

My tank is the updated version of the bio cube. Coralife dropped the Oceanic name and made a few upgrade. I kept stock lighting as well. The cool thing about the new tanks is that you can add LEDs as well. They are strips of 3 and can get blue or white. I have three strips now and slots left for two more. I will be getting those soon.

I will keep the stock lighting because of Reggie, my blue dot jawfish. I've got to have a hood because this dude would have been flopping on the carpet by now.

I too have the new version of the biocube.. I added 2 strips of the blue accent leds to the hood. Doesnt really make a difference when all the lights are on, but when they are off its very nice and blue... I think they are kinda pricey though I think.

It does look nice. I will be adding two more blues so all 5 slots will be blue. The down fall is that I run my entire tank on a reef keeper. With that, I don't manually flip switches. Of course this means I have no moon lights on the tank which also kinda sucks.

i have a day and night timer and I just have my blues on all the time... so when the day lights turn off the blues stay on and act as the moon lights... that way i dont have to do any switch flipping. nothing seems to be bothered by it.

My reef keeper does the same thing. I just think the LEDs are way to bright (3 strips), for moon lights. Adding two more, for a total of 5 strips, would be crazy bright for moon lights. I will figure out something though.

i agree.. i only have 3 blues so i think it will be okay to run during the night. like i said, nothing seems to be ****** about it.

My profile pic is a rainbow anemone that was in my 180g several years ago.

That piece is nice that you have.

How are your temperatures holding? My temp gets up to about 83 with the stock lighting and the a/c set at around 76, I don't like it to be that high. I haven't added a fan in the back which might help. This is one of the reasons I would like to go to the LED's. But as mentioned above, I don't want to lose the hood and risk a beauty jumping out! I did see some LED's online that are made to fit inside the clear plastic shield. Have you guys seen or heard anything good about these?

in time i will invest in a larger tank around that size.. i just wanted to start with a small one at first to make sure i could do it. everything seems to be running smoothly to date. its getting addicting. still have a lot to learn tho.

I have had a few issues with the temp of the tank. I have found i can keep the tank around 74 if i keep the house around 69... its has effects on my bills a bit, but not much... I dont really wanna invest $500 in a chiller so that is my solution. with the stock lighting I guess its just one of the issues with tank during the summer months. But once it starts to cool down I dont think it will be an issue... I can imagine the heat would be a much bigger issue in Miami then it is here in Colorado. I do know you can rig up your own little LED invention under the hood with zip ties and screws that works just fine (my LFS did it and showed me their invention)... Im pretty sure there isnt any LEDs made to fit the hood to replace the lights... you just gotta get kinda creative.
