I know these are pretty cheap, but I just bought two Coralife digital thermometers and for fun I dropped the probes into a bin of saltwater right next to each other. They disagreed by 0.7 degrees! I waited too. This was the resting temperature reading. Sort of disappointing.

I wouldn't stress too much over the difference. Maybe contact Coralife to see if there's a way to calibrate them. What are your plans for the thermometers? Would an error margin that size upset those plans?

I'm not really stressed about it. It's a cheap device I'm using to check on QT, NSW, and so forth, and maybe the sump until I figure out which controller I want. I had assumed that temperature measurement is so basic and simple that it would be hard to screw up. I do a lot of econometrics/statistics as my day job, so now that I see this discrepancy I really have this urge to buy another 98 thermometers and calculate the error variance!

Id be happy they were both 77 lol. See what it reads in ice cube water.
