Link isn't working for me Don.

Let me do this.

If I were going to permanently install a UV filter I would get a higher quality one. This unit is fine for short-term use if treated properly but I certainly wouldn't trust it for months on end.

Think it might be the newer ones. Have a couple on tanks for at least 10 years with no issue. Bulbs get changed every 10-12 mos

Right. It's also quite possible that this person treated it poorly and hasn't disclosed that. Also I would add inspecting the bulb at least quarterly as part of my routine maintenance.

This is why all of your equipment in your tank should have a pre set inspection date you set. I keep every peoce of equipment in my tank on my calendar. Some alawma go of weekly to look at some montly, and some every 6 months. The idea is to understand that everything in and around your tank is in a slow state of corroaion and decay or efficiency decreases the longer maintance is avoided. The most important thinga to always pit on your scheduel are things that habe unatural intwrfaces between two things that would not normally go well together. So in your preinds case... water and a high voltage lightbulb that is submwrged behind a quartz glass. Definately needs to be checked every few weeks.

Its a good habbit to look at things we take for granted carefully, seals, gaskets, the rubber sheath around wires (with enough salt exposure it stops being rubber and becomes brittle) sometimes its good to do a full inspection on something, not just clean it and hope that its working properly.

This is a known problem with the turbo twist. I saw a video where a guy took 3 or 4 apart and They all had some rust. Some had quite a bit.

I have one 4 years old, haven’t experienced that. I change the bulb every 10 months, just changed last week, looks brand new inside. Wonder if it’s newer ones or some bad batch with a defect.

A friend of mine had an Jebao UV melting in his tank, his tank had been crashing for months and he couldn't find out why. Turns out the UV melted and was literally melting the ABS into liquid in the tank.

I've just bought a coralife turbo twist ×3.....I've also seen this on fb over here .. in fact Ive heard of someone contacting coralife and buying it without the reflector in it ..took one of their workers 5 days too remove it I believe .. apparently coralife say what comes out is the same as gfo ,therefore they consider this reef safe ....not sure if I'm gonna use it now or just re-sell it ...

Contacting corallife is on my to do list. I have the same experience with mine rusting very badly within 3 months. I told a friend to check his and same thing. I have my receipt and everything so i’ll have em refund my money. Knowing this is an ongoing issue I will never buy another.

Here are the two side by side. My friend allowed his to get pretty darn crusty. Mine rusted in less than three months. Installed vertically as the instructions say. I will update when i hear back from corallife.

Had this happen with 2 units first one I bought did the contacted coralife and the sent the a email they sent me a brand new unit that did same thing I threw it away never again !!

Darn, I was hoping their policy was cutting checks. If they insist on sending me a new one i may try coating the steel with something reef safe that’ll hold up to the uv light. I’ll probably just use it in my qt tanks a few weeks at a time.
