Hoping to increase coraline algae in my 10 nano...calcium is at about 400 and I dose very small amounts to keep it there...alkalinity is 12...I have some patches coming out but very slowly...lighting is standard blue and white LED's that come with Innovative Marine tanks...any help here would be appreciated... I sue Bio-Sea salt which I read is superior??Ken

hey Ken,
i think you are ok like that,. just be patient. there are some products like Purple Up. i have never used them, so i cant really tell if they help.

Be carful of what you wish for... lol Just give it time. Maybe, work on lowering Phosphates and ALK.

I've never used any products to boots growth... Within the first year my tank was caked in it... Now i would give anything not to have to scrape it off the glass regularly... I added urchins to eat it off and I think they just helped spread it lol

Purple up is powderize sand AKA Aragonite. Says so on the bottle. I always give the Caribsea guys crap about it at MACNA. They literally told me it's for new aquarist that don't know any better. Don't waste your money. All it does is cloud your water and coat your tank with crap. If you want that, just stir your sand bed.

That's good to know. i have some friends here in Costa Rica. and they use it. for a couple days their tanks were like milk!
crazy stuff

I seen a video once not sure where I found it but anyways he takes a rock and scrapes off some coralline algae puts it in a old blender with tank water and pours it back in his tank.i guess seeding his tank in a way

I really love and wanted coralline in my tank......All I do is water changes once a week, I do not dose....now, I feel like it's a loosing fight haha. It started slow, but now my eyes can't keep up with it.

Once you got it growing youll be wishing it wasnt! lol Its such a pain to keep off the glass
This is very true!! My hands are beginning to become raisins from scraping coralline. Haha. I still love it though. Maybe I'll pull all the corals out and put them in my other tank and and this tank strictly for coralline:D I do love this stuff.

Fiji mud. a good seed & beneficial bacteria. Corraline is an algae it uses the junk portion of the spectrum to grow many LED dont have.
My JBJ has almost none my led/PC has 6 kinds.
manual kalk and mag dosing as needed by testing.
my green corraline wont keep growing though. not enough orange I figure. Its the hardest to scrape so im not upset.

as far as salt.
Mr. Farley uses instant ocean.

As this poster stated keep phosphates rather low and it'll grow pretty quick.
my phosphates are kinda high unfortunately. Wifey likes to feed the babies. and doesnt want a bigger skimmer. I did sneak a little bag of GFO in. I hope she doens't clean the sump.

what are you talking about? Most leds now a days are ful spectrum, as well as coraline could easily be grown under only blue and white leds. Coraline grows best when no other forms of algae are growing, IME. Keep low nutrients and you will have plenty of coraline algae, no mater your light.

"Most"
IME as well. Just sharing mine. My JBJ 28g Led Pro had almost no corraline.
My DT is high nutrient for the animals I grow and has amazing corraline.
And white is also relative 5.6 10 14 are all considered white.
