I always run 1-2 pincushion urchins to keep it under control.

While it looks all pretty and purply, it encapsulates the live rock.

Purely my opinion, this limits the bacteria’s ability to do its job

Consistent water changes will keep your calcium at optimal levels. I use Red Sea Reef Pro salt and my calcium levels never get low.

You can get Ca additives from companies like Red Sea. There are several out there. Some may even have coraline in it to seed your tank.
