Can coraline algea bleach or die? Notice some of its turning white on a few rocks rot sure why.

It can, usually light or alkalinity related but there are other causes.

Could something be eating it? About to test tank today

Urchins will eat coralline. Parrotfish may scrape it off rocks. I could see fish like puffers also accidentally scraping some.

There are bacterial infections that will reduce coralline algae but I wouldn’t think those are common in our tanks.

No urchins in this tank. Theres some happening on a small island rock then some happening at the base of a zoa frag.

I noticed in my tank, when I raised the light percentage and started to add more white light it started to die off. Eventually it started to come back, just depends of whether or not you have low light or bright light species of coraline algae in your tank.

I let my asterina populate sometimes just to eat it!

Well I hate asterina stars in my tank and all I've seen them eat is my pineapple sponges but could be them. Haven't seen any in a while except for in my sump.

I did change the spectrum on one of my lights (AI prime) to match BRS copy of the AB program for radions the other lights are 4 t5 bulbs. 2 blue plus, 1 aquablue special 1 coral plus.

My tanks params are the same for the most part. I'll send a picture of last month and this months chart.

First is December second is january. Was out of town the last bit of December. My params did drop while I was gone but not into any problem areas. My all just went from 9 to 8.5 cal from 440 to 400. Slowly getting cal up. May leave all where it is at.

When I noticed my Coralline start to bleach it was because of a calcium drop. I switched salt from Instant Ocean which mixed high(480-500) to Fritzs RPM blue box and now I have to dose calcium. My coraline was the canary in the mine... it was the first to react to the low level of calcium. I was a bit under 400 after my tank was used to almost 480 - 500.

Not the best at testing use instant ocean reef Crystal's just for the price. Have not tested to what it comes out at. I've started using brs 2 part the last month? October I believe I started. My alk has dropped to 6.8, my zoas hated it. Took a month of being at 9.0 to get them to open back up. Coraline was fine tho.

Thinking ima go with the star fish eating it.. doesnt look like it's natural to me. Happening in like spots or spurts all through out it all.
