So me being new to saltwater tank I thought coralline algae could be introduced with no help just from the dry rock while my tank cycled. Well I was obviously wrong lol. I been reading that some people get coral with some algae on it to introduce into their tank. Some look for snails that have it on their shell. Also live rock and then I saw introducing it chemically. What is everyone's go to method for introducing coralline algae into their tanks. It is something i neglected when setting up my tank which i need to do now. Thanks for the help.

Welcome to R2R!!! It will be introduced to your tank one way or another. Keeping stable parameters in range is how you get growth of that and it takes time!

If you have stable chemistry and are patient, it will appear. You can try and seed your tank, but the second you put a frag plug in your tank or a shelled invert, you've likely introduced it. I've never sought it out or done anything special, but starting around the 3 months mark my rocks start turning purple and by month 12 I'm cursing all the coraline I have to scrape off the glass. Each tank is a bit different in the colors/species you get, so if you have particular coraline you're going for, you can seed that, but if you just want your rocks to be a shade of purple, stable water chemistry and time are the secret :)

Awesome thank you. I think I got some bad information when I first started my journey. Thank you

No worries- lots of really good information and bad information out there and it's tricky for new reefers to navigate the waters. It's part of the learning experience for everyone :)

Ehhh, it's overrated. I used some coralline accelerator by microbe-lift. There are different colors out there now too, one is a really hot pink, but i think it's a low light algae as it only shows up in hidden places for me. Got that off ebay.

I have so much coralline now that i have to use a blade to scrape my glass so be careful what you wish for ;)

Did you know that you can actually get a Branching Coralline. Here you can buy it. https://www.live-plants.com/corallinecluster.htm

As much as it becomes a curse for some, and in one thread I read a guy ended up taking his tank down to kill it, it was growing in sheets, to others it is beautiful, Do a Google search on it, you will be amazed by the variety and locations it can be found, as well as the colors.

I for one haven't had any luck with the branching variety. It lays on the sandbed and is part of my frags plug graveyard.
