|Hey Guys, Quick question about coraline and its growth

It used to grow like a bad weed on the glass, then i started having element issues mostly a drop in MG and consequently Cal, I got my parameters back up to par, but the coraline has not yet seemed to grow like wild fire like it once has.... Any tips?

Not that i miss scrapping coraline off every 3-4 days :P

Cheers

Mag was down to 1050, cal 320, Got it back up to 1400 and 425 cal, Almost lost my monti cap, it turned white grey, but kept some flesh that miraculously came back to life :P I keep a close eye on that now and hate water changes as they really mess up my #'s, im debating putting off the water changes, usually it drops me about 100ppm per w/c wich means i have to add 4 cups of BRS mag solution to equalize my tank...

If your calcium and mag are that low your alk must be really low unless you are dosing for it. Alk is always the first to drop below acceptable levels.

Im noticing that now, as my Mag and Cal are up to where i want them but Alk seems to be at like 4.5-5.5, id like it closer to 8ish .... The LFS i asked last said they kept their Acan tank at 10dkh, 1350mg, 420cal... Usually when i dose the ALK the flowers on my valida come out.... usualy i only notice them come out after dark

If you can get that alk up to at least 7-8 dkh you'll see better coralline growth. Just don't raise it too fast.

I made it a long time without dosing calcium and I've never had to dose for mag using reefcrystals salt. I've almost always had to maintain alk by dosing.

Alk is the most important parameter to maintain and keep stable IMO.
