Anybody have a small hunk of rock with good coraline algae on it to spare...only need a golf ball sized piece...I want to shave off the good stuff in order to speed up its growth in my Fusion 10...Thanks...

Why not just incorporate purple up or something similar? I dosed it for a month on a new system and the tank exploded in coralline growth. I'm always cautious about taking in live rock, as Forest would say: "you never know what you're gonna get" o_O

I asked about that once...got mixed reviews...your tank just exploded in ca, huh?...maybe I'll try it...

I added the recommended dose at night because it clouds your water and raises your PH. Since PH tends to decline at night on top of the lights being out, i figured this would be the best time. I wasn't dosing anything, just regular water changes. I added purple up for about a month, saw some growth, stopped, and the rock/tank is covered with the stuff. Not saying it'll work for every system, each is slightly different. Timing is key.

purple up dosnt work imo. buy a few margarita snails there shells are covered in coraline.

If coraline isn't already present items like purple up won't work. Just keep your calcium levels stable and it will take off after it has been introduced into the system. Then you will hate scraping your glass like I do lol

Purple up has the elements necessary to grow it, thats the point in dosing it, but again, if your levels are already VERY low, you'll likely see minimal results. If you match this with routine water changes, with optimum salt, to elevate your levels and replace those elements faster, you likely will.

"Raises concentrations of calcium, magnesium, strontium, trace minerals and carbonates"

My coralline exploded when I did two things: dosed to increase nitrate to 2-5 ppm, increase flow. I always had good Ca, Alk, and Mg. If those are low, purple up may help. When I dosed phosphates to increase to 0.03-0.05 in addition to the nitrate increase, my algae went away. Go figure. Now I ignore everyone who says run 0 nitrates and 0 phosphates. My tank has never been cleaner and my corals have never looked better. My skimmer has never looked dirtier either, but that's hidden in the basement so who cares.

So I ask again...does any brother/sister R2R'er have a small hunk of rock with Coraline on it...I will pay something, but it doesn't have to be big...ordered the PU...have a little cor. in my tank, but seeding it more would help...let's go community!...Thanks...

I am getting a hunk of rock full of coraline from a member's tank...for safety, would it be safe to dip it as I would a new coral...before scraping off the c. to see my tank?...

You can, and I think I would, but the probability will still be high to get something, if there's indeed any pests on the rock. Not sure how this affects coralline though...
