Hey all: I bought some rubble rock today from my LFS that has coralline algae on it. I understand that I need just a few pieces of it in my DT to start seeding the coralline (they gave me 2lbs) but its in the nastiest water I have ever seen. I dont want that in my tank.... Do I rinse the rubble rock in new salt water, or RODI water, or even dip it in Coral dip? Looking on how to introduce this to the tank without getting some nasties that I don't need.

If you are just interested in the coralline algae you could always try to scrape it of the rocks and add it to your tank like this. This way the coralline algae will spread to random places and you don’t have to be affraid of putting anything bad in your tank!

I would rinse it in new SW. you don’t want to dip live rock. Then put it in. There’s always a risk of adding rock form some other system. You could QT it if you are really concerned

Thanks Guys... i don't have a QT tank... Maybe i'll do a little scraping as well as rinsing / inspection before I introduce a piece or two..

I‘d be really nervous about adding other rock just to get Coraline. Seems like a way to bring all sorts of bad stuff into a tank. Just my opinion.

I would tend to agree with you, thus the reason for the question before action taken. Nothing done yet...lets hear some more options :)
