Good evening everybody! So a new to coral question. I have coralline algae growing on the trunks of my torch, and my octospawn corals. Is that okay? I guess what I mean is will they still grow new heads in those areas?

Shouldn't matter and if you have a tuxedo urchin they will find it.

Yeah I am wanting to get one of them! But what do they eat other than coralline? I don’t want it to go hungry.

All types of algae I've had mine 3.5 years. They are hardy. Got them from petco too
Wow ! Petco? It would never occur to me to look there. I am on a notification list at Reef Cleaners whenever they get on in, but it has been awhile now, and nothing.

A question about urchins. I see people who have hats for them to wear, do you know anything about that. Where I can get some of these tiny, aquarium safe hats? I think that is adorable.

Uh not really but they will aquire their own hat from little things in the tank like small snails or a few zoas.

Okay, one more question about tuxedo urchins since mine arrives tomorrow. I have read that they don’t do well with “dirty “ water. My tanks nitrates tend to stay between 15 and 25 ppm. And my phosphate at about .1 . In your experience will that be okay? I do water changes every other weekend.

should be fine. Mine is in similar nitrates (lower phosphates), but those parametres are no problem.

Had mine for a a couple years, eats mainly coralline and some regular algea i left for it. Your parameters similar to mine but po4 varies from 0.1-0.2 over the years no problems. Get a printed hat and put it in the tank and it may pick it up from time to time
Great animals....

I really really want to get a couple hats for it. Where do you get the printed ones?

I got a couple of hats and a crown off Etsy. Search urchin hats and you will find them. She had to grow into them though. They do grow fast. Great algae eater and very active. If i worry there is not enough algae, i bought algae sheets and slide them between her and the glass and she eates them right up. Have fun. I love mine.
