Coralline algae

If you can find a rock or frag with coraline on it you can scrape the coraline off of and crush it up in some saltwater and pour it into a high flow area. It will spread it fast as long as your water parameters are good

Coraline in my tank has taken off in the last couple months. Can this cause the Ca and ALK to drop pretty fast? I have a 20g setup with 10g sump that I turned into a fuge using Chaeto about a month ago. My corals are made up of 20+ heads of Dendros and around 8 total heads of Hammer and Frogspawn corals.

Couple of quick tips. Either seed it with a Coraline covered rock. Purple Up is popular, I've never used it, but maybe others have comments about this. There are some Coraline Macroalgaes out there, check out www.live-plants.com. One other point, your salinity is a little low. 1.024 to 1.026 is optimal.

Look for a pink snail. It will do the work for you.

PurpleUp dosnt have any Coraline in it. It is a calcium + other stuff booster. So its like dosing your tank with the stuff that coraline uses to grow. If you haven't seeded the tank with coraline though it will do nothing...well probably something.. but not grow coraline.

If your nitrites are 0 and nitrates are about in the 5-10 range you are ready to add corals. If you like soft corals like mushrooms or zoanthids then try those, but be careful they can take over in a short amount of time. You can also try and see how it goes. I agree buying test kits and keep track of of your parameters. Before buying corals you should raise your salinity to 1.024-26 range. Also dip all corals before they go in your tank.

Can someone please tell me everything that they test for my local lfs does this testing
Calcium
Ammonia
Nitrites
Nitrates

Is there a thread to read about dipping coral? I would like to learn the proper process for that.

Once you have the tank cycled (and it sounds like you do). I wouldn't bother with Ammonia or Nitrite testing.

You should be testing Alkalinity though that's far more important to corals then the others. Calcium and nitrate are good to keep an eye on. It wouldn't hurt to get a Phosphate test kit either.

I'd recommend Sailifert test kits or Red Sea.

Thanks dragon99 i will start testing im going to try and put a picture of my tank so u can look at it

There are many different dips out there with many different processes. This is what I do personally (I have only done it once, but it worked so well that I will only use this is the future).
