Hi there, where can one find coralline algae? Also, does the CaribSea Purple Up contain coralline algae? How about the Liquid Reef? Can I just get a bottle and pour that in to get my boring white rock purple?

But only if your tank is over six months and stable.

Ideally it’s a algae … you want to introduce it and the for sure way other than bottles is to buy snails , frags or
Something with coralline algae on it . Or a local to scrape some from their system for you to add to your system .
given proper
Conditions , stable parameters it will grow and spread .

it boggles my mind why everyone wants it so bad at the start . Once you get it
You will post and curse how to get rid of it

Yeah my tank is about a month old. Cycle is complete as of nearly 2 weeks ago. Have two Clowns. That’s it.

Purple up does not contain coralline algae unfortunately. It is just an additive to promote its growth by adding calcium and an aragonite powder.

One of the cheapest ways to introduce coralline is by picking up a hermit or snail that has it on its shell. You can scrape a bit off into the water to seed the aquarium.

However like many have said you will need a more mature tank that has stabilized before it will grow

Neither contain coralline algae, but do contain trace elements used by coralline algae. As mentioned by @Rmckoy, introducing coralline-encrusted snails/rock and ensuring system stability (keep up with regular water changes, wait for your system to mature) are ideal for coralline growth. It took almost a year for Coralline to take off for me, though the majority of it has accumulated on my glass.

I give up, good stuff. Have a nice day!!!
Don't get me wrong, I get what you're saying, and the Arc Reef coralline is some good stuff. I wish they had come out with the blue they talked about once, but neither here nor there.

7 weeks is very much a best case scenario for coralline algae to grow in any new tank. While your success is notable, it does not reflect the majority of cases. I would hate to get someone's hopes up, and then have them understandably frustrated when calcareous algae doesn't take root in 7 weeks, three months, five months, a year, two....

I’m just saying it does work, that’s it. Here it is at 7 month mark filled in completely.

Thanks for all the info. I’m not in a rush at all. Just curious as I am new to the hobby. I appreciate that it can be done early and it’s nice to see some success early, but if the general odds are to wait a bit then I have no problem doing that too. I’m focused on success and a bit at a time rather than trying to do it all at once. Wallet also can’t take the all at once approach. Lol

An urchin will mow it down it pretty well.
