coralline algea

you have to make sure your parameters are good but most important is that your mag levels are stable. also that you have some coraline already in the tank.

coalline algeas just take time. Growth rates can be determined by your set up, but time is the main factor as long as your water chemistry is in good order. Do you currently have growth now? What are your water parameters and what are you using for lighting?

thanks, water is good, lighting t 5 actinic and white and blue and rose, metal halides 20000 and 14000, I had grade A coralline rocks but they disappeared, 1 year ago, coz I treated white spot with medicament, my calcium is a little down. I don't know why all my clams dies...I have 1 only now !

I'd like to know too, but more on the rocks than on my glass. I keep acros and a maxima clam, so I dose and check all the time. I have to scrape coraline off my glass every week, but my rocks look bare and ugly even after almost three years. What gives?

Did you treat in the tank?!? What with? That's prob why your clams (and prob just about any inverts) died. But you do need to maintain a steady (not elevated though) cal/Alk/mg ratio for proper calcification.

Has anyone tried adding kalk to their top off water?

I have, but I dripped it in over night(about 2 gallons) I had lots of sps and some Lps. They were growing so fast when I was adding kalk to the tank. I just set up a new tank and will start to do this again when I get some sps back in and growing.

I believe that elevated magnesium levels helps to encourage coraline algae growth.I use Tropic Marin Bio Magnesium to reach the Mg level that I want. In addition to magnesium, i think it is also important to make sure that the calcium and alkalinity are all in check within the system too.
