Does coralline algae growth limit nuisance algae growth. The reason I ask is that I have a biocube 29 up and running 15 months with high nutrients , great coralline growth and no algae. On the other hand I have a 90 up for 9 months with low nutrients ( nitrate 2.5 and phosphate .02 ULR) with minimal coralline growth. Does the Coraline on the live rock prevent GHA from taking hold?

If conditions are right in a system, poor quality water replacement, over feeding, introduction of nuisance algae then the presence of coralline algae will not make a difference. The back of my tank is covered in a thick coating of coralline, if nutrients get out of control the algae simply grows right on top of the coralline.

Coraline also doesn't like intense lighting in the wild it grows in lower lighted areas.
In most of my tanks most algae grew where there wasn't any except cyano or dinos but I also let it grow on my back glass for fish to munch on and it never really grows anywhere else.
