This has started growing mostly on my rocks and it doesn’t brush off. (Have to scrape it) So I assumed coralline but now it’s starting on my coarser sand. I’m told by my LFS that coralline doesn’t grow on sand. So, red algae?

Cyano

Boo :(
Ok, how do I get rid of it? Fish store guy said turn the lights off for 2 days. Is that it?

Up your flow, two days might not be enough.
It’s not enough yet to put chemiclean in it yet.

I would strongly say up your flow and leave your lights off for a few days.

Ok thanks! When you say up the flow, should I put in another powerhead? I don’t think mine are adjustable. I feel like this is a stupid question, but I dunno.

What are your parameters? Phosphate prob high, possible it wont test high because the cyano is using it as its being produced.

Up your flow and wrap your tank in black trash bags for 2 to 3 days and it should go away.

Trace ammonia, nitrate around 15 (this has been steady since I set up the tank and I’m not sure how to lower it). I haven’t been testing phosphate but I guess I should. I (probably mistakenly) thought that using an RODI filter would take that problem away? Perhaps this is the problem?

I would say up your flow about 25% and wait two weeks. It might disappear.
From my earlier post....

Add another powerhead.

If it’s non adjustable, you should definitely consider adding another one. It’s hard to have too much flow.

Ok thank you. I have two non-adjustable ones so I was concerned about blowing the poor little guys away. I’ll add another one though! Thank you!!
