So I notice that ever so often I start losing parts of a Zoa colony. And I’ve been trying to figure out what’s causing my zoas to grow so well but randomly one group starts to melt away.

I just start to notice a pattern and visual features. The place where the Zoas melted were encrusted in bumpy coralline and you can actually scrape it and find Zoa numbs underneath or just like empty pocket.

It seems that I have coralline start growing in between polyps and then start encrusting upwards from the base to the head. I can see polyp heads that are half open with encrusting coralline all between the stressed Zoas

As anyone had this similar issue? Coralline grows pretty well in my tank.

If you can scrape it, it sounds more like Cyanobacteria than Coralline. Do you have a picture?

It’s scrape like with a Razer blade. And it’s more like chipping it. Here’s just an example of a frag I have

I can take better photo with a camera instead of photo tomorrow

You sure you don’t have any predators that invited zoas over for dinner? My blue tang cleared out half a colony of zoas over night!

I have clownfish and a peppermint.

Right now I have a test frag set up.

2 months ago i got 2 seperate frag plugs glued the edges together and put a couple Polyps of AOI. The plug that doesn’t have corralline already is at 8 Polyps one half had a small rock with coralline and he other didnt. And the coralline is really coating the plug now and you can see the polyps struggling against the growth of the corralline and are being encrusted

Hello!

Did you find a solution? I have the same problem! What can I do? Do I have to buy something eats coralline?

I’m having the same issue. I just did a 50/50 tank water and hydrogen peroxide then chipped as much away as I could. There were a couple Zoas buried underneath. Really only seems to bother the zoas.
