Hello all,

My 30 gallon tank has been up and running for around 8 months. I have been noticing these areas on my powerheads and nozzles that are slightly rough and very sturdy (cannot be scraped off). At first I thought it was just the plastic discoloring but then I thought it might be coralline algae? Any insight?

Hello,

Mine are the same it’s the hard algae build up. I would not scrape them but better give them a vinegar bath. Fill your sink up with hot water and vinegar. Let them soak for a few good hours and it will just fall off or wipe off.

Cheers
Sarah

Yep, coraline algea, vinegar or citric acid works well(also good for pumps and powerheads btw).

i would leave it be.
unless it is going to be a problem with a mechanical device it is good to have. Of course if you dont like it it also does not hurt to remove it

Thanks everyone. Not causing any mechanical issues. Kind of excited to have it.
