My first tank is currently cycling, so I'm a few months away from getting my first corals (I think). I'm looking for articles, books, videos, threads etc. that really go over all the basics and then some for someone who knows nothing. What have you found that you think really covers all the basics?

I was in the same boat as you not too long ago. I highly recommend watching the BRS video series 5 minute guide to keeping a saltwater tank. it is invaluable for newbies and veterans alike imo.
Also don't think of it as what you have to do to keep corals. focus on keeping water first , then the fish and corals will take care of themselves.
Agree on the Tidal Gardens videos as well when you want specifics .

Each category of corals is different. Soft corals have different needs than large polyp corals and small polyp corals are different yet. Also, individual subcategories of corals has its own needs. In SPS corals, you have birds nests, montipora, pocillipora, acropora and others. Acropora tend to be the most sensitive. But some are far more tolerant than others. So you need to read up on the category of corals you wish to deal with and often read up on the specific group in the category. Even then, you will find conflicting accounts. I suspect that there are many interacting variables going on in each tank. Two tanks can seem to be very similar in nutrients, flow, lighting, ALK, CA and Mg but one will have flourishing corals while the other quickly kills them.

Funny the 5 min guide videos convinced me to try corals and not just a fowlr tank. They don't really go in depth though so looking for something more. Will definitely check out tidal gardens videos though!
