Guys,

I have a 40 gallon tank, and it seems that my corals are dying... I do not have a skimmer on the tank and it has been running for about 6 months now. Corals in the tank are

Hammer
Torch
Zoa
Leather
Galaxea
Trumpet
War

Water parameters are...

Alkalinity 5.8 Dkh
Phosphate 0.81 ppm
Sanilty 1.22

Is this a dup post? Likely shouldn't be in SPS discussion?

That being said, your ALK is low, PO4 is high. Any reading on CA or MG? Salinity is a bit low as well. How often are you testing and what kits are you using. Are your parameters stabile or are you experiencing swings? ATO? What's your water source?

First lemme say thanks for response... I didn't know where to place the post so I put them in all three. As per ATO it is RODI water and I do a weekly water changes, alk how would I rise it up? I use Hanna checkers and do them in about every 2 weeks. Ca and mg I don't have those type of checkers yet so I'm sorry I wouldn't know.

Thanks

Hi. Well first off you have a very young tank and you need to make sure to get stable water parameters. This includes pH, temp, salinity and of course the alkalinity, calcium and magnesium. Alk is really low. That number needs to come up. Water changes will help and dosing is another way to go. What salt are you using and what are the alk and po4 of the salt after it is mixed? Check that first to see if the issue is there.

Some of those corals are not great for beginners. The frogspawn is okay, but torches can be finicky and the galaxea needs lots of food to survive (eats much of food from environment, not as much light). What leather? Some can send out lots of slime and other corals really hate them. War coral (favia) will hate being near leather.

More information on set up would be helpful such as filtration set up and flow and lights.

Salt i'm using is Tropic Marin salt, tank is a 40g breeder with a 110 hob and jaebo rw8. It's a pin cushion coral.. Would those throw out slime..? Galaxea is on the other side of the tank even tough its not huge and it's sweepers can reach most likely, it seems to not be reaching or harming anything yet....

Thanks,
@
