Guys,

I have a 40 gallon tank, and it seems that my corals are dying... I do not have a skimmer on the tank and it has been running for about 6 months now. Corals in the tank are

Hammer
Torch
Zoa
Leather
Galaxea
Trumpet
War

Water parameters are...

Alkalinity 5.8 Dkh
Phosphate 0.81 ppm
Sanilty 1.22

How often do you do water changes? I would do them more often to replenish alk and trace elements.

I do about a weekly water change to the tank every Monday about 5 gallons sometimes more... I use rodi water
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

What kind of salt mix you using? I use Red Sea blue bucket and new salt water at 1.026 mixes to a alk of 6.2 ish! So I raise it to 8.5. Your alk is real low and phosphate higher than it should be. Raise the alk .5 a day or when you do water changes dose the new water to the higher alk and raise it like that

I'm using Tropic Marin Salt, when I do mix it comes to about 1.25... I hear adding some baking soda will help rise the alk is this true? But adding it to a 5 gallon bucket how would I gauge that? With phosphate I'm doing a weekly water change to drop it down the best way I can but seems to be a very slow process any recommendations would be great!!!

Thanks,

Bulk reef supply has aquarium calculators for dosing baking soda. Ive done it before and it worked like a charm! Give it a google, its easy to find (unsure about link rules here)
