I have been very frustrated with my system for the past 2 weeks and at this point I don’t know what else to do. All the corals show odd behavior and are inconsistent as well! For Corals I have: 4 gsp colonies, 2 acans, 1 hammer, Kenya tree, and some mushrooms. Every day one coral is very extended and happy while all others are closed. Today the extended one is an acan, yesterday it was a hammer, and so on while the rest remain closed. The GSP havent been open for about 10 days mushrooms as well. I have no Idea what is going on and would love some help.

Hows your flow?

2 weeks ago I left my fans off after feeding and they were off for 9 hours. Came home form work and everything was closed and sad. Turned them back on and everything was happy in the morning.

I think the inconsistent responses you see in your tank might be a result of the corals you're keeping....several different habitats worth of corals. :)

But the root of the problem is likely to be....

nitrates, phosphates: 0

Those are some of the basic building blocks for growth, repair, reproduction, photosynthesis, etc. in a reef tank.

If you're using anything like GFO, extra bio-media, or carbon dosing, I would stop.

Let us know! :)

Thanks, right now the only thing im running is a sponge for filtration, I have been heavily feeding the tank everyday (lRS frenzy, brine, pellets, and reef roids) in an attempt to get my levels up but still nothing. What could be consuming the waste so quickly?

Overfeeding is a way to generate an algae bloom, not to solve a specific nutrient deficiency.

So make sure you are feeding an adequate amount to the fish....no underfeeding allowed either! ;)

What are you doing to manage nutrients currently?
