Corals and Angelfish…

My Emperor will devour zoas and some polys. Acans don’t stand a chance and anything near the entrance to his cave he trims if it starts to grow and block. All hammers, torches and frogspawn he leaves alone and no problems with any SPS.

I've had lots of angels, these are my experiences on a few of the standout ones:

1. kingi angel (had one 2013 to 2016) - when tiny left everything alone, when it got to 3 inches started on elegance and zoas
2. Regal angelfish (had one 2014 to 2021) - started out leaving everything alone, when it got bigger it started nipping zoas
3. Bellus angel (had one 2020-2022) - destroyed my Micromussa, was the weirdest thing for a supposedly "zooplankton" feeder (have video evidence)
4. Maculosus angel (had one 2020-2022) - destroyed zoas and softies

A friend has loads and loads of angels with sps, and besides low PE on them, they do well with the angels. He even has a French angel and Cortez. So SPS and any angels is a good bet for a healthy coral tank.

a friend of mine has a mini sized regal angel.. Captive bred and is tearing down his tank.
Well, I have a SPS heavy tank and I dont know if I should tell him I will care for the little baby..
its maybe 1 inch or so

whats your recommendation?

i have blueface angel on my 200gal, so far no issue.

What about scoly? Are they safe with any of these angels?
Scolys, Trachys, Wellsos, Symphos ect… are meat for most if not all reef safe with caution fish.

6” Majestic Angel with Zoas, Goni, Aveo, Torches, Hammers, Bubble, Trumpet, Blasto, Acan, Monti and Acros. I have only seen it eat my cloves and some coral that were struggling. I do make sure I feed frequently, at least twice a day.

What corals have you kept your angelfish with successfully?

Angels are a fish everyone loves but few people actually keep. I wanted to help people wanting to keep these beautiful fish in reefs but not in the way you’d expect.
We generally say ‘Go for Genicanthus species’ when people want to own angels in reefs but what if we did it the other way round?
What if we have a list of corals that we have kept our angels with.

I have a regal like yours and he has yet to damage anything. He has nipped a little but it's never been to the point of killing anything. I have torches sps frogspawn and Large lps corals. he's left them alone

I have a Coral Beauty in a predominantly softie display but I do have frog spawn, hammer, trumpets and duncans. The dwarf angel has never bothered anything.

Flameback angel and flame angel have been cool with lots of leathers, mushrooms, zoas, gonis, duncans, acans, euphyllia etc.. Basically the only issue I've had is flameback will eat birds nest, pocillopora, and stylophora. Don't know about other sps/acros. Also, someone eats gsp and I think it might be the flame angel but I've never seen it. But it started disappearing after he went in.

This is my most coral dominant area in the tank at the moment for anyone intrigued in what sort of corals I have as I do have a couple hidden round the back as small gems to find when anyone’s viewing the tank :)
