So... I just watched the video of Dr. Joshi's nano reef tank. No water changes and no protein skimmer. And it leaves me with the following question:
As I understand it, calcium is required for the growth of corals. And as a consumable, we supplement calcium in our tanks. Perhaps by 2-part or even in weekly water changes. My point is that we replace calcium taken up by corals.
Unless I missed something, there is no mention of supplementation of any kind in Dr. Joshi's nano reef.
A tank with corals which is not receiving calcium supplementation, would eventually test for zero calcium. When that happens, will:
1. The corals stay healthy and just stop growing?
2. The corals deteriorate over time as calcium is required to maintain their health and not just for growth?
