So recently I lost a bunch of yumas and several lps. Now some lps are receding. I checked my mag and sure enough it was low at 1120.

70g and my target to raise slowly by 50ppm, that still puts me 295ml to reach 1170.

that numbers looks scary to me and my plan is to spread it out in 5 days, which give me 60ml daily. Is this sound right?

my alk/cal are a bit low as well, can I dose that let say another in between or what’s the right way to do it?

Yes the bulk reef supply magnesium supplement takes a very lots to move it a little. This is normal

1120 mag won't kill LPS. It will slow down calcification but not kill corals.

Then any idea why my corals are receding and ended up dying? Salinity 1.025, alk 7.1, nitrate around 3 and phosphate .03. Tank is little over a year old. There was a little alk swing from 6 and I had to slowly increase it to 7.

I am currently slowly dosing to 7.5

If alk is that low something is eating it and it's not LPS. That's my first concern.

I can tell you mag at 1100 won't bother LPS. Just makes it a bit harder for corals to form calcium.

You meant like pest eating them? If so I don’t think so and here’s why. All the acans and favia are evenly receding from the bottom up. Yumas shrunk then melted away and chalices receding on the edge.

Ever find the problem?

Nope. Raised the mag up slowly. Double check with a new salifert mag test kit at around 1400 thing still not as good as before. Hopefully will slowly settle down

I’ve had swings in alk that my lps didn’t like. Also I have a smaller tank so I had to be careful feeding or using reef roids or any similar to avoid phos and nitrates from jumping.
