Wow. I just tried reefroids for the first time and my tank did not react well! Every single coral closed up and at first i thought they were eating, then they didnt up and seconds later everyone was stress sliming everywhere!
I followed the instructions to a tee and target fed each polyp with a syringe. Has anyone else seen anything like this?

Don't feed as much as they say.. use way less... I would not target feed. It is potent and potentially irritating to squirt it at them.

I stopped using it a long time ago... small particles from frozen fish food that end up flying around and fish poop instead. I would only target meaty LPS with big mouths and then use something like Mysis.

You sure it was stress slime and not a feeding response? Powder foods make many corals do this.

I know some swear by it. I tried it once and that was enough for me. Seems most of it gets caught up in your filter socks and made my skimmer go crazy. Switched to AB+ and phyto. Never going back to powdered coral foods. I feed reef nutrition pellets to my meat corals.

I didnt do a broadcast feed. Didnt use all of what was recommended. Target fed. Just a few drops near the mouth not right in. Slime city.

reef roids has a huge negative effect on phosphates, so, it's like spraying the coral with phosphates... I switched to benepets coral food to help minimize phosphates.

I feed once a week or so. I Put a tiny bit in a shot glass add a lil tank water with a pipette and with the same pipette I mix it. I then turn off all flow, dust my corals about 2-3 inches above them and then run my powerhead for about 10 minutes before turning filtration back on. Best to test PO4 prior so that you don’t over do it. This stuff raises PO4 quick.

stopped reef roids yrs ago, benepets is my go to...phosphates shot up thru the roof using reef roids

I broadcast feed it every 5 days with all pumps and powerheads on. I use 1/4 recommended dose. Feed it about 1 hour before lights out. Seem to always have a very good response.

So I did a 17% water change last night after all the slime. Ironically, this morning my corals look pretty plump and happy, with the exception of my hammer coral which is still closed up (but I'm fairly certain that's because a bit of undissolved salt got on it when doing the water change). All my parameters look good except nitrates which somehow went from 10ppm to 0 with not a huge water change :confused-face:. Phos is still at .03 so hopefully im not at risk for dinos and the nitrates start to pop up a bit soon.

Given that the corals look pretty good this morning, I may give it one more go with a 1/4 of the recommended and try broadcast feeding it. IF the same thing happens though I'm gonna bail on this product.

Curious about how your hammer got undissolved salt on it. How are you doing your water changes? Are you mixing it in the tank or premixing it before you put it in?

I tried roids for about a month with the intention of boosting nutrients and seeing what the response would be. I did maybe 1/8th tsp for a 29 gallon mixed with frozen food, some target feeding and broadcast, about twice a week.

My lps really puffed up or put out feeding tentacles.

My nitrates shot up from very low to 20 ppm over several weeks. My phos didn't move much. I stopped using it for a while.

Premixed in a 5 gal bucket. Just had some sediment on the bottom that i missed. Total operator error lol
