Hi I'm kinda new to this but I have a 56g tank that has been running for we'll over a year now. I have had no problems until now I get a lot of help from a store near me but this one has them stumped. I recently lost my clam and now other coral are not opening up. Iv had the water checked several times and everything is perfect. I do water changes once a week and everything. I have chaned nothing in the tank and now I'm loosing corals. Any ideas?

For the clam, depending on where you got it from, they can die for what seems like no appearant reason since some species dont do well held in captivity. Also if you have moved it at all because it doesnt look happy, they can get more agitated from that and will not open and just die. For the coral, are they all not happy or just the recently added ones or the well established ones

Can you give some tank specs? i.e. lighting, flow, type of flow, filtration, placement of the corals in question and type, are you dosing anything, etc. Just need some more info....

I'd be interested to know if you have changed salt brands... and if so from what to what and when in relationship to this problem.

Only a few of the corals are like that and they have all been in there about the same amount of time. The clam was the only thing I added and it lasted about two weeks. As far as everything else it's a 56g tall tank I have a 600gph pump with a sump with a fuge. I have two 750 powerheads and I'm using led lighting which has been on there since day one. The corals are near the top and they have been there the whole time. I have changed nothing. It seems once the clam went now these are like that. I hope that's enough info

Some one smarter will have to answer my thoughts, .. perhaps it is a chain reaction to the clam going south?

Ok, turn down the LED power for a couple oif weeks, see if this will bring them back. If they start to color back up in a matter of a week, problem solved. I know they've been on the tank the whole time, but what have you got to lose?

How close is the closed up acan to the hammer behind it? I've had mine close up as things grow close to one another, which has resulted in me having to relocate some things. Could be some foul play happening at some point on behalf of the hammer, doesn't explain the rest of your corals, but could be a possibility for that one. I've also had my some of my LPS go into "shock" when I slack on changing my carbon on a routine basis, and throw in fresh carbon. Just throwing out some ideas that might seem inconsequential, but do effect the livestock.

There has to be something very wrong with your parameters because clams are usually pretty hardy but rely heavily on calcium and other trace elements. A clam just doesnt die in 2 weeks

I have had all checked including calcium magnesium and everything check perfect everything has been fine for a year the clam was the last thing I added and when it went it seems like everything else is following

He may have brought something with him then. Have you tried dipping your other corals?

I have not dipped them yet. But it's just strange nothing has changed in the tank. I dose I do regular water changes and everything. I have my water checked all the time and its perfect. I really don't want to start losing stuff

Ya never know what comes with any Coral, or fish for that matter.

There has to be something wrong going on with your water parameters. You might need to test with different test kits. I don't know if the clam carried some type of weird disease or what but i suspect something is wrong with your water.

The fish store I go to uses the API and Red Sea test kit and he says my water couldn't be any better. Even the salinity is perfect

Sounds like your water is good. Have you made any other changes, lighting etc.? If not there may be a problem that the clam introduced into the tank. I don't know what that could be. Maybe someone here can help.

A dead clam is plenty of trauma in a tank for a while... don't you think? Keep up the good work.
