How can you tell if corals are completely dead and no chance of coming back??

Depends on the coral, you need to be more specific as to coral type and why it failed.

It is a Ducan and eagle eyes

The Duncan will present with only skeleton, no tissue. The Zoanthids tissue will be completely gone.

Certain corals do apparently arise from dead.
Montiporia capricornis, and some Acros have surprised me by coming back .

I've had a few corals some back: Monti, Zoos, Fungia...
So now I leave dead skeletons in the back of the tank or in frag tank for few months before taking them out.

If your Duncan coral is dead, you will only see the skeleton of the coral. How long have you had the corals?
