Cornbred Rainbow Krakens

Acro_Man you have everything. I was hoping I can trade u for some bounce mushroom with these once they grow out...but I guess there goes that idea!

I used to split a tank with cornbred at all local swaps and can say his pics even though badly photoshopped people are always satisfied with the corals and everyone that complained on forums or facebook would not say a peep when they saw his stuff in person. I rarely talk to the guy anymore. The oranges are a little more orange and the reds are a little more red in pics but what you get it's somewhat close to pics. He has a great cult following of rich guys I guess and you can't knock a guy for selling $10-$20 corals for $100, he built a name and in this hobby some people pay for a name. I've had people buy zoas from me for $10-20 more because it was from me like if my zoas would magically make their tanks better lol. So please lets keep the bashing to a minimum!

I would think he has some amazing coral, it's just too bad he feels the need to over-saturate and take under 100% blue LEDs. Although there are mixed reviews, at least some people have been happy with him - but seeing photos like that makes me instantly skeptical. The coral sales on facebook for this stuff are insane, but for most people's CB stuff I never see updates or photos that ever look anything like the original. I would consider putting out that money (for sticks) if I saw what the colony ended up looking like under 20K lights from other tanks - there might be a few out there, but in general I don't see them.

Why don't you talk to him anymore?

No relation to the zoas posted but the bashing ..
Here is my experience .
I can say I have had some issues with CB corals recently . All were resolved with a win win situation on both sides of the fence .
Perfect example . Not too long ago I bought some frag pack that came in looking totally horrible .
They were so browned out I couldn't identify what was what unless I went back to the old pic and looked at the shape of the frag .
This doesn't always work as some wysiwyg are not what u get .

My EG ..

His pic

What came in . I know it's hard to see but my buddy took these with a s5 camera under radion pro .

A lot of emails went back and forth . Lights , water parameters , the usual hoopla .
I was advised I would get replacements on the skittles favia n the flamethrower favia .It is what my gripe was. I am not an auction kinda of guy . I did win those on an auction since I wanted the skittles . I didn't care for the freebie nor could I figure out what it was .
I asked if I paid for the shipping would they send the replacements .No vendor that I know of pays for shipping on coral replacements, They said that works for them . I sent the funds . This is what they sent .

Again not a good pic . It was taken with an old galaxy s3 camera with 2 t5 bulbs .. actinic n 460 blue .

I inquired on a certain acan and was able to add it to the replacement pac .

His pic .

My pic .

All in All
It all depends on how you go about dealing with mishaps . I for one would buy from him anytime . I do know his pic's are adjusted but aren't a lot of other's guilty of this.

Why do you want to see a "daylight" coral? I find it odd that so many people complain about pics taken under actinic only to turn around and drop the coral in your actinic heavy lit tank. I haven't been to very many shows or frag swaps where all the booths are lit with "daylight" bulbs and surely don't see all that many people asking the vendors to change the lighting either. I am in Orlando and we have a decent size reef community and I rarely go to someones house and the person is eager to blast the white lights to show off the coral. I don't doubt cornbread photoshops his coral, but this issue people have with actinic lit pics is overplayed.

I look at my corals with white light daily...but I quickly switch on the blue. Only frag that looks good with white is blondies in my tank. Not too many look good in white light

Haha, rare we see a vendor admit they overcharge for a coral. I applaud you JPS. :)

He is a vendor?!? And I thought he was only selling coral to buy pork sandwich...I might not buy from him again.

Why don't you talk to him anymore?
He's a caveman and doesn't like friends lol.
It's got to be about being honest, I can safely say that is not a honest representation of that zoanthid just by looking at the picture.
I use editing software on all my pictures, but I use it honestly and try to keep what I do correct to what I see.
At the end of the day if you buy in to it and are disappointed by what you receive, then a expensive lesson shall be learnt

You can't compare your professional pics to his lol. I also think he just doesn't care about what people think. He's been doing this for a while and why change what works. BTW I wish I could take pictures like you choppy!

I take pride in my stuff. I grow everything with love and I get attached lol. If a coral looks too good I raise the price so I can keep it hahahaha. Also many times I tell people just to buy from someone else if they're too cheap. I still see it as a hobby even though I have more than most LFS in my area lol.

I'm not a vendor. Every cent I make I use it to buy more corals lol.

Didn't see what u said about the progressive bashing . I am glad u stated this . I am not part of the cult but I do have quite a few of his corals in my qt tank .. lol

I prefer to view corals in a whiter light. I don't own any leds and my t5 combo is pretty white. When I shop for corals I always ask for more white light. A brown or rly light coral will show at least some color under super blue light, especially led. To me this would be a misrepresentation of the health of the coral. A perfectly healthy frag being sold for any amount of money should exhibit the coloration you're looking for under a "daylight" color temperature. Anything less is not worth spending money on.

Eg:

A coral under daylight with more white has nothing to do with natural color, you choose what u like either under blue or whites, reason u ask see in daylight is your personal opinion. And not all acropora will look good under LEDs. either some don't look good under LEDs and or do. But putting a acro under 10k or 12k is not going to make me buy a acropora, most true color of corals needs blue light

Cornbred lives 10 minutes away from me and i've been to his place a lot of times. Ive bought corals from rich (cornbred) and mike (firecorals). I speak only from my experience, is that i have nothing but good experiences with these vendors. Again, ive seen those zoas everytime ive been there and the colors are spot on. These is one of those zoas that look good under actinics, im sure if you ask for a daylight pic he will send you one. But be sure the zoa will look different. And i can see why josh says he likes to stay in his cave lol... Anyways, as far as pricing, all vendors have their pricing. Even josh, at the fragswap he wanted 130 dollars for a 1 polyp no name zoa... Im not trying to bash the guy but again everyone has their pricing... You can either buy the coral or just keep moving. So the point of the story, if you like the coral and enjoy it. Take pics and post them. Im always down to seeing nice pics of zoas since my photography skills suck. :)
