Has anyone ever thrown some plants and live rock in their corner overflow and used it as a mini refugium? ..Thoughts ? Ideas ?

Yes and it was a bad idea on my part, the roots ended up clogging the drain's after being left in there for a while and cause an overflow issue.
 
what if you had a standpipe so that everything grew below the drain
