Corner Overflow Tank Stand what the heck

For people with corner overflow tanks, did you run into issues building the stand?

I guess this is where a fully plywood stand does it’s job.

look at this fitment? I’m going to have to put these boards on the outside of the stand I guess...

shouldn't that 2x4 be bracing/under left support 2x4 ... and shouldn't the back support also have 2x4 underneath? Perhaps I'm missing something in your construction design or not understanding photos. From above pictures, it seems the back "support" is floating unsupported. If the supports that give height were under the supports that support tank, then think those supports would not interfere with plumbing and more importantly tank would not collapse. Perhaps I'm just confused...

@I’m Batman it’s tough to tell from the pics but as @Fish Think Pink points out your 2x4 ”leg” should be under the frame that supports the tank so that It’s carrying the load. If the leg is screwed into the side of the frame then you’re relying on the screws to carry the load. It looks like your leg is notched to tie into the frame but can’t tell for sure.

and shouldn't the back support also have 2x4 underneath?

It does... it’s a @RocketEngineer design stand... I used 2x6 for the legs so it’s hard to see.

Also I have to rebuild the stand because this image is floating around Reef2Reef where the corner supports don’t overlap the boards underneath....

They should overlap the corners like this one...

Kinda T’d off I built it like the first image only to have to re-do the stand... luckily I did a mock up and didn’t finalize the complete build yet...

You don’t have to rebuild the stand. The overlap is preferred but not a requirements.

In order to fix the corner overflow issue, you may want to look into a Kreg’s jig for pocket screws. This would let you screw the purple legs in place without needing the green board. Going this route should give you the room you need in that corner.

Okay. Now that I’m caught up no worries on the stand. The “green“ piece from the diagram that’s getting in your way doesn’t carry load. It just holds pieces together.

Least effort solution would be to take it out, and replace it with zinc or galvanized metal mending plates.

Next maybe cut it a bit shorter and put a 45 or 90 elbow after the bulkhead or flexible PVC.

I know this is old but I just cut a notch out of that 2x4. As stated above that leg really doesn't do much for the integrity of the stand.
