Please excuse my ignorance as this is the first time I'm plumbing the tank by myself. I bought the following hole saw and drilled two holes successfully. Yesterday my 1 inch colored PVC and 1in bulkheads from BRS arrived. To my surprise, the threaded end of the bulkhead passed through the drilled hole with so much space. is this correct?

The colored pvc and the bulbhead fit perfectly. the hole saw diameter measures exactly 45mm for your information.

Also from the way you described it, sound like you have the correct hole saw for the ABS bulkhead you cut.

Do you have any pictures? It may help. The threaded end of the bulkhead normally passes very easily into the hole. As long as the flange, rubber seal and nut are larger than the hole it should be ok. 45mm is the reccomend bit size for 1" bulkheads.

1st pic = measuring of the hole saw

2nd pic = hole saw on the experimental tank with the hole drilled to show that the hole saw fits the hole.

3rd pic = shows the gap I'm concerned with. there's gap between the threaded portion and the glass if the tank.

4th pic = 1inch colored pvc on the 1inch slip x thread bulkhead. very snuggly without the need of pvc cement.

That looks right to me.

ok, thank you. so it sounds like the threaded portion of the bulkhead shouldn't fit exactly to the drilled hole?

ok. great.

while we're on this subject I have a question regarding the slip x thread bulkhead. say that I'm going to use the orange pvc for my main drain line, should I use pvc cement on it? I heard that if you're doing gravity fed drain line, you don't have to.

Inside the tank or overflow box I normally don't use cement. Outside th tank I always use cement. Without gluing I think it's a disaster waiting to happen
