Hi all,

Anyone got a surefire way to get rid of ball nems (corynactis/pseudocorynactis)? I have tried injecting lemon juice and kalk and they just seem to bounce back after a day or so. Tried smothering with putty which was somewhat effective but I would have to cover half my rockwork in it to get rid of them all!

I have loads of little ones, mostly in dark places and tucked into crevices where the LR meets the sandbed, the biggest is around 1/2 inch. They look cool but I have seen reports of them killing shrimp and small fish, I did randomly lose a peppermint shrimp the other day but can't prove it was the shrooms, regardless with the rate they are multiplying I would rather not take the risk

Thanks

Good question. Is there anything out there that eats ball anemones? Don't know if aptasia eating predators would also eat ball anemones.

That was my first thought, perhaps a species of butterfly fish or angel fish but I'm not sure which would be most suitable.

Would it hurt to try a peppermint shrimp?

I wish I could help, but I'm indeed in a struggle myself. Although I like the little wizards, I do see them bother some corals and fish from time to time. Especially when they get outa hand. On the bright side, theyre alot easier to remove by hand then aiptasia

Pretty sure theres nothing reefsafe that eats them.

I have a flame angel but is doesn't touch them, they are in a reef tank so most other likely candidates would be out I guess. I was considering an aip-eating filefish, might give it a go if nothing else works.

I had 4 peppermints, 2 different species which annihilated my aiptasia but won't touch them ball nems. I lost one a few weeks back in suspicious circumstances which may or may not have been related to the nems.

I like them too, they look cool but all it takes is one or two bad reports and it gets me paranoid! When you say remove by hand do you mean just pull them out? I haven't tried this as I assumed i'd just end up tearing them and doubling my problem.

Thanks for the responses

Did anyone find a solution to the ball nems? I’m currently fighting the same battle and am wondering which route to take.
