I'm not saying that I want to use it for my morning eggs... But if armageddon happened, could you consume a high grade reef salt? All those trace minerals packed in. What do you think?

I'm not sure, but the only way to find out is trying it out.

Sprinkle some salt over my steak please.

My box says not for human consumption. But it brings up a good point, if it came down to it, could you resort to it?

Exactly. For many years salt was used for bartering. If I came down to it.... Could we consume it? Especially since it has trace minerals.

Some of this stuff could be pretty nasty stuff but the nacl we do eat also came from seawater. . .

With very little, possibly no nutritional value, in a survival situation, why would you need to?

You need salt to survive. We get it every day in processed foods and lots of it but in a survival situation where we go back to living off the land salt is a commodity and lack of it causes health issues.

But regular salt is so cheap. If it came down to it, my dog might not need salt. :)

Yup. No salt = no nerves or brain function. Can't do anything without it for long. "Worth your salt" is a reference to being less of a drag on rations and the root of salary is sal because roman soldiers were paid in salt because it was more widely accepted than any other currency. In fact modern civilization is the result of man's ability to preserve food with salt and therefore explore further from an original food source. It is also the only mineral/rock we eat in its natural state. Important stuff that salt.

Magnesium Sulfate is Epsom Salt, which is a very strong laxative. It is way too high on that list. In other words, that 7-11 burrito will give you diarea. Wait a minute, that explains all those 7-11 burritos. :squigglemouth:

Based on the requirements of a human body, an average adult requires an intake of 4.2g salt per day. The minimum requirement is 1.5g. The government recommends an intake of 6g salt per day for an adult and less for children. At the moment the average adult intake is 10-12g.

I realize that salt is necessary for the human body but, in a survival situation, there's much more nutritional ways to consume it, naturally. Natural food collection, harvesting and hunting, would not only meet the body's salt intake requirements, but would also meet other nutritional needs, such as proteins, carbs, etc.
