Could I get an ID on these please?

I found them on the bottom of the rock that I bought a piece of Nepthia attached to. They turned the bag water rust colored.

Black sponges would be my guess as well.

Do any of them have holes or what might look like a siphon? How do they feel to the touch?

I've seen ground up GAC goo up like that???

Most likely a tunicate of some kind

It's pretty slimy to the touch, no noticable holes or tubes on it. I tried to take some decent underwater pics, but they are not that great. Based on what you guys are saying the options sound relatively harmless, correct?

Most sponges are harmless.

Thanks guys! I feel better about it possibly growing back over time if it's just sponge. I removed it from the rock, but like anything, I probably didn't get it all. I was just worried about something evil gaining a foothold and growing back. Cheers! Happy Reefing!

Looks to be a sponge. Mine started out looking similar to that, here it is a year later...
