iv just got back from my local marine shop and loved a very large green birdsnest sps coral they had" but did not bring it back because was not sure if would be ok in my new tank whots got no fish or coral yet"

whots your thoughts on birdsnest for 1st coral

tank ? lights? parameters ? to answer the question on the birds nest we would need that info
my tank is 160 gal tank run by 3x hydra 26hd lights and have maxspect 350 pump and mp40 qd pump
iv checked par with my seneye and is 240-280 at top of rock shelf and 180-200 par mid shelfs or to sides of lights

I use red sea blue salt and tank is running

8.0 kh
ph 8.15
calcium 415
mag 1435
temp 79f

im thinking of 20% water change every 10 days im going to dose red sea foundations a/b/c when set up dose pump

How old is the tank and what are the parameters? Even though Seriatopora is considered easy to keep SPS, still need to consider it is SPS and you need a mature stable tank to keep SPS happy and long term.

its new tank with no stock yet

I’d take daily readings of parameters. Log them down. See if everything stays stable. New tanks tend to fluctuate a lot. Alk, Ca, Mg and others. If you’re certain you’re keeping salinity and temperature stable as well, I don’t see why you wouldn’t be able to keep. They’re typically easy for novice reefers.

I would start with a frag first, not a colony. IME seriatopora was a fast grower but also a very delicate coral. Sensitive to chemistry swings and coral warfare. Start small, keep a log and learn your tank as time goes on.

Hardy coral for me but I have seen others complain about some being sensitive to alk fluctuations, so I would make sure that’s good and stable.

my mag/calcium stop stable and most times temp only changes upto .6 of a degree normally after auto top off has kicked in" my Alk has dropped few times from 8.2 dkh to 7.4 dkh that's a week swing

are some colours more easy than others? the birdsnest in shop was like 10inch around and green" had no tiny frags
