Could I put a normal AI prime as a refugium light?

I am upgrading my tank and need a light for my refugium and in my old tank I ran a ai prime and I was wondering if I could reuse the light. Also tomorrow I will be posting my 60 gallon cube for sale with stand. Thanks in advance guys.

Most horticulture lights are pink, so red blue violet.

Depending on the size of your fuge the only issue might be light spill into other chambers causing algae. I use a neptune gro and like the way it mounts right over the chaeto so no light spill but your AI light will certainly grow stuff in your fuge.

Thanks for this question, I was wondering the same thing, I have a AI Prime HD just sitting in a box that I am not using. I was going to buy the GRO light, but I may not need to now if I can just use the light I already have.

You can get diffusers made up to help with light spill. I’m running a regular in my sump and have a frag rack in there instead of chaeto

Even with the diffuser it’s still hard to stop algae growing in there. I found the sump to basically go through the early ugly stages of a new tank when adding the light

I believe any light will give you some level of ugly phase in there

I use one as a fuge light. Was running all chanels at 75% before I melted the lens, after replacing it I kept everything the same except turned the violet and uv way down.
