Could this Plexiglas be used as an aquarium?

Hello guys,
Question could this plexiglass box be used as an aquarium? The measurements are 120cmx160cmx90cm and the thickness is 8mm.
Is the thickness enough

Without running the pressure numbers and just from gut instinct... I'd say no way. Mainly because it's a TALL tank.
The general rule of thumb for acrylic tanks is 1/2" or 12-13mm just for 24" / 61cm height.

Not for that volume of water. You'd probably want closer to 1/2".

For that thickness you don't want to go over 24" (60 cm) tall. You also want to make sure it's been glued well. You'll also want to brace the top with those length and width dimensions. I had a friend find a display box he wanted me to cut down to use as a frag tank but it fell apart cutting and had to be glued back together. Cutting it down isn't difficult if you've had any experience with a cordless skill saw.

If you want to cut it down yourself it's pretty simple using a cordless circualr saw and water to keep the blade and acrylic cool to prevent microfractures from occuring. I'd use painters tape where the cut is being made to prevent the saw from sctaching the acrylic. Here's a short video:

Has to be cell cast acrylic to work as a fish tank. Definitely to tall for the thickness of material.

My calculation says that 'container' is about 454 gallons. Doesn't seem like 1/2" would be nearly thick enough for 450 gallons? But what do I know.....

120cm x 160cm x 90cm = 47.2" x 63" x 35.4" = 105,363 cubic inches / 231 = 456.12 gal
