I have a pair of Black Ocellaris clowns that have been in the tank for 9 days. I just got them a beautiful Colorado Sunburst BTA. The anemone has been in the tank for a couple of days now. It found a nice spot where it got its foot under a rock and has opened up very nicely. The clowns have been clowning around the tank like crazy but they have not ventured into the rock work very much. The clowns seem to stay right at the glass most of the time swimming the length, height, and width of the tank constantly. I guess its a waiting game now to see how long it will take them to host the anemone if they ever do. What has everyone's experience been with clownfish hosting times? The last pair or gold stripe maroons I had were hosting an anemone when I bought them and I got the anemone they were hosting. I know BTA are not a natural host so I am wondering if that will have an affect on the hosting time.

Sometimes it's instant, sometimes it's absolutely never. I had a friend suggest that you put them in a hanging breeder so that they are forced to be together in a small area and they seem to catch on that way. But it seems naturally it just happens pretty quick or it doesn't.

Iv had clowns go in anemones chasing food that I dropped over the nem.just dropped some pellets and flakes over the anemone and he clowns chase the food and bump into the anemone and start to notice it more.

In my 2 experiences it took about 3 weeks. My favorite thing about clown is watching them wiggle in the tentacles. It never gets old.

Having kept nems/clowns I can say without a doubt that it takes exactly one day, a month, or three months for a clown/nem hosting relationship. Also just FYI, trying to staple and/or duct-tape a fish to a nem doesn't work... most of the time. They are slimy and the tape won't stick

Thanks for the replies. Hopefully with time they will find their new home.

I have a gbta that my occ's couldn't careless about. They've been together for about two weeks now. Hoping they take to it, my gf wanted the nem cause she wanted them to host lol

My old carpet nem... took my 5 clowns months then suddenly one day they were fighting for hosting rights

my first BTA it took my clowns about 2 weeks--then the Bta died and we got another one--the clowns took to it immediately but that nem died--we did more research on what nems need and long story short--the temp in tank was too high.We fixed that issue and now have a Rose Bta---I think we have had it for about 3 weeks and the clowns dont seem as crazy about this one,but I hope in time they will.
