These guys rode in on a piece of coral. There were several in the bag. Good or bad? They went down the drain just in case.

I am not an expert but the one on the right looks like an amphipod (arched back). The one on the left looks like an isopod (flat) but it's a bit hard to tell from the angle of the pic. Both look like they are/were harmless. They usually just eat algae and debris. Depending on what fish you have they probably would have become a meal. Look up saltwater isopod and amphipod and compare what you had.

I forgot to add... Some species are known to be bad. I am always afraid of getting the nasty ones and not the benign ones in coral I buy so I toss them. I only trust pre-bottled/pre-bagged aquacultured pods like Reef Nutrition's bottled pods but that's me. I only go so far in taking risks with my tank. LOL I would've tossed those as well if they came in on my coral. :-)

Tempted? Yes. Acting on it? No.
Exactly! I wish I could have take a laissez-faire approach to my tank (the idea that everything adds biodiversity and it's all the circle of life, yada, yada). No way... Can't do it. Creepy crawlies I didn't intentionally add have no place in my tank. LOL There's no room at this Inn unless you were invited. Haha.

Thanks. I always like "good" welcomed freebies, BUT, yeah only gonna go so far. Rather be safe & toss it than later find it over whelming my tank. I have a separate 5 gallon with some stuff I collect at the beach that I put in there to keep an eye on.
