Uhhh. I think this snail is predator;). I've kinda let it go on because I wasn't sure if the coral had another issue and grew algae, or if the snail was doing. It's looking like the nsail is doing it...

I just happened to notice these (hydroids?) on the acro blowing in the current. They are all over this acro and don't seem to be irritating it at all.

Not an SPS, but while I'm at it... Some close up of my blue ridge coral. I noticed these little tube worms when looking through the macro. Then I kept going trying to get polyps. I didn't kill all of the flow, so they didn't come in completely clear...

theres deffinately algae growing on there and to me i would think that the snail is just eating the algae

thanks for the pics, didn't know there are acros eating snails, did it come in with the piece or just show up?

can you take that snail off, and put him on a flat surface and get a new picture?

it almost looks like a whelk...but i thought they ate other snails...not acros.

I have a coral that was just covered in hydroids as well. I've had the piece for about half a year now with no negative effects that i can tell. Those particular type are some form of jelly fish which i think is pretty neat.

I'll snatch him off the coral and get some shots. I've got a recession problem right now (actually started when I got my alk and ca balanced and stable for a month or so...). The coral the snail is on (ORA Miami Orchid) was looking great two months ago. It started to recede, then the algae came. The snail has been hanging out on it since it started to show signs of lightening. Then came the algae in the state it is now. The recession on my other acros is bottom up, but this one is in the middle of the coral and still getting worse. It's not happening fast, though. Could just be coincidence on the snail...
